Hi! I’m Jolie.
I’m a licensed esthetician and writer based in New York. Before that, I worked in the education world and then the tech industry. It all blends together more than you’d think.
When I was 22, I developed adult onset acne and became obsessed with the science of skincare. I began to create content on Instagram about what I was learning, eventually wanted more space to write and started a newsletter, Hotline Skin, in 2017. (And I never left Instagram.)
My newsletter serves as a platform for my career as a practicing esthetician and is now top-rated on Substack in the beauty category. The premise is a skin hotline–readers ask, I answer–but you can also find interviews, reviews, various other beauty reporting, discounts and more. You can read it here.
I graduated with honors from Christine Valmy International School for Esthetics, Skin Care & Makeup in 2021 and have a BA in Psychology from Oberlin College. I’m a contributor to New York Magazine and InStyle and teach a class on Blog & Newsletter Writing at Gotham Writer’s Workshop. I do various other freelance work and will happily consider whatever comes my way, so please, come my way.
You can get a facial with me in Tribeca at Practise NYC or use the contact form to get on the waitlist for appointments in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. I also offer virtual skincare consults. Yes, I would be interested in learning about your facial-related needs for events and things, tell me more.
I live in Brooklyn with my fiancé Alex and our dog, Goose. This is my favorite sunscreen, but go for this one if you don’t want dewy.
